Esther Lysander, the driven, professional Marine ever conscious of the heavy weight of her father’s legacy, is selected to become an officer. She has high goals for her career—very high goals—and she believes the best method to achieve success is to be a complete hard-ass, keeping emotions at bay. This outlook has resulted in some notable achievements, but at the cost of friends and her relationship with her twin brother Noah, a price she is willing to pay.
First as an infantry platoon commander, then as a Recon Marine, Esther develops as a tactical commander, all the time putting her career first and foremost. As she grows into her billets, however, she begins to realize there is more to being a leader of Marines than simply the mission at hand. A true leader cannot consider her subordinates as mere chess pieces in her rise to the top, and a true Marine has to put the needs of the Corps and Federation above her own.
(Author's Note While this book is still focussed on the Marines, it is also a salute to past and present Coast Guards around the world. They risk so much for relatively little acclaim. Semper paratus!)

Rollicking good story with plenty of action - even if some of it is of the Super Woman variety. I found Esther's next assignment conundrum the most intriguing, as it goes to the heart of the challenge for any ambitious officer; are you serving for the Service or for yourself? Both can align, but both can also be diametrically opposed. Esther's struggle to either return to the "standard" path to career progression or take a special, by-name but potentially career derailing billet is very real for serving officers and Senior NCOs.Poor editing was an annoyance - re-writes could often be easily identified due to tense and/or syntax changes. It seemed apparent that meeting a publication deadline caused grammer, tense, and word choice to occasionally suffer.

Esther Story Recon Marine The United Federation Marine Corps' Lysander Twins Book 2 eBook Jonathan P Brazee Reviews
I would have given it four stars except for all the grammar errors. There are a lot of extra words that had no meaning in the sentence and he instead of she and vice versa. Don't they use proof readers anymore? Other than the grammar it was a good read.
Enjoyed the book. The story line was fun to read. Its interesting how Ester relates to her brother Noah, especially because the reader gets both perspectives with how this series is being written.
Love all his work!!
It was a good escape novel for people who like adventure stories.
Great book, great military scifi, love this series
The colonel comes through with another beaut. Recommend this to anyone who really likes good military sci fi. From a retired USN Master Chief.
I have read all books in this series. I love them all.
